Temporary installation. When green button is pressed, a nickel falls from the ceiling. An internal timer limits the dispensing of coins to once every 27.7 seconds. In one hour an individual has the opportunity to make $6.50, the minimum wage in Oregon at the time. Questions encouraged by this installation: Is this artwork a job? Does one earn the coins they collect or is this a giveaway? Is the money worth the time it takes to collect it? Why spend public money on art? Are the nickels a part of the art when they are in your pocket? How about when you spend them?
